Sojourn Stories
A sojourn is a sacred journey away from what’s familiar - where God meets you, stretches you, and changes you.
“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country… to the land I will show you.’”

A Week in Vista Hermosa
A Journey of Faith, Partnership & Transformation
Spring Mission Journey: Vista Hermosa, Guatemala | April 6 – April 12, 2026
Before the sun rose on the first day, the team gathered in the Nativity parking lot at 4:00 AM, stepping into a journey marked by faith, anticipation, and a willingness to be sent. From that moment forward, each step revealed how God was already at work—preparing hearts, building relationships, and inviting deeper trust.
A Journey Begins
After smooth travel to Guatemala City, the team was welcomed by their 410 Bridge partners and began to settle into the rhythm of the week. Shared meals, prayer, and preparation laid the foundation for what would become a deeply meaningful experience rooted in community and purpose.
An early morning flight to Huehuetenango, with just eight passengers onboard, offered a peaceful transition into the mountainous region where the team would serve. From the moment they arrived, they were greeted not as visitors, but as partners—welcomed by leaders who would walk alongside them throughout the week.
Building Relationships that Matter
One of the first powerful moments came over breakfast with Don Felix and Carlos, leaders with The 410 Bridge. Through prayer, storytelling, and shared vision, the team was reminded that this mission is not about short-term service, but long-term partnership.
As the team traveled to Vista Hermosa, even a simple stop for hot chocolate became a moment of wonder—standing in the clouds, reminded of God’s presence in both the extraordinary and the ordinary.
At the heart of the week was time spent with the Leadership Council—local men and women committed to guiding their community forward. Through honest conversation and a leadership workshop centered on servant leadership, meaningful connections were formed. Conversations about challenges, including past leadership struggles, were met with encouragement and shared learning rooted in faith.
Witnessing Transformation
Throughout the week, the team saw firsthand how sustainable programs are changing lives.
Through The 410 Bridge’s Farming for Families (F4F) and Business Start-Up (BST) programs, families once earning around $2 per day are now earning closer to $9 per day. What began with 35 families has now multiplied to impact approximately 700 families—a powerful example of dignity, ownership, and community-driven transformation.
The team met young entrepreneurs like Saul, who has raised thousands of fish with his father, and Wirlin, who operates incubators, raises livestock, and grows crops through hydroponics—all at just 18 years old. These stories revealed a hopeful future shaped by resilience, innovation, and opportunity.
Faith in Action
Each day began with Scripture and reflection—reminders to wait on God’s timing, trust His presence, and remain open to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
The team had the privilege of walking alongside families in tangible ways—helping build a fence for a garden, sharing meals, and entering homes where stories of hardship and perseverance were shared with honesty and courage.
In these sacred spaces, prayer became a powerful expression of love:
+ Prayers for healing for a young girl with limited vision +
+ Prayers for a child struggling in school +
+ Prayers spoken over a shy teenager longing for confidence and growth +
These moments were not just acts of service—they were encounters with Christ in others.
The Joy of Community
Time with the children of Vista Hermosa brought a special kind of joy.
At El Mirador School, the team led a Bible study on Joseph, teaching about patience and God’s perfect timing. Through creativity and play, the children brought the story to life—decorating colorful coats and proudly sharing their work.
And then there was the soccer camp—a highlight of the trip. Laughter, energy, and connection filled the field as children and team members ran, played, and celebrated together. These moments, simple yet profound, reflected the beauty of shared joy across cultures.
The Power of Education & Support
The team also learned about the critical work being done in education. Programs focused on early literacy and math are reaching 250 students across 11 schools, providing tutoring, materials, and infrastructure improvements where resources are limited.
Despite challenges—such as minimal government support and inconsistent parental engagement—the commitment to invest in children remains strong. Yet, the need continues to grow, especially for child sponsorship, which plays a vital role in sustaining and expanding this impact.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
As the week came to a close, the team traveled to Antigua, reflecting on all they had experienced. Shared meals, laughter, and even unexpected moments—like witnessing a proposal and graduation celebration—marked a joyful ending to their time together.
The journey home brought time for reflection. From early morning departures to smooth flights and final conversations, it was clear that something lasting had taken place.
A Lasting Impact
This was more than a trip—it was an invitation.
An invitation to see the world differently.
To recognize the dignity and strength within every community.
To understand that true mission is not about “helping,” but about walking together.
For those who traveled, the impact will remain long after returning home. Relationships were formed. Perspectives were shifted. Faith was deepened.
