Sojourn Stories

A sojourn is a sacred journey away from what’s familiar - where God meets you, stretches you, and changes you.

“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country… to the land I will show you.’”
Genesis 12:1

Michele’s Story

All gratitude and goodness to God

Kenya 2019

Jambo! My name is Michele Connor and I have traveled with the Church of the Nativity, both nationally and internationally. In 2019 I joined a team of missionaries from Nativity and traveled to Kiu, Kenya. During preparation for the trip, I expected to feel a bit outside of my comfort zone. I thought I might be overwhelmed with both excitement and nervousness for the trip. I also thought, given the scope of the trip, there may also be some more opposition than there had been on my previous mission trips to Appalachia. I was confident however that through my feelings of overwhelm and opposition, God would be with me at every moment.

While I was in country, an impactful and overwhelming moment for me, was pulling up to the Kiu Primary school. Seeing the smiling faces of the children and adult community members greeting us with singing, clapping, dancing and waving brought happy tears to my eyes and a powerful sense of hope to my heart.

God was surely in this place! I saw Him truly present in each and every person on this trip. He was seen in the missionaries, students, community leaders and community members. The community members worked together to bring about positive change and gave all their gratitude to the goodness of God.
